Part of the Turkish Riviera, famously known as the Turquoise Coast, the Antalya region is a haven of long fine beaches. Explore the sands of Konyaalti Beach and discover natural wonders like the Duden Waterfalls and Kursunlu Waterfall Nature Park. Alongside the native beauty of the area, you'll find ancient ruins like the sprawling amphitheatre at Termessos and the antique cities of Phaselis and Perga.
The resort city of Antalya blends a cosmopolitan vibe with all the typical characteristics of the Turkish Riviera. Here, you'll find turquoise waters lapping at the soft sands of the shoreline, whilst in the Old Town, you'll discover attractions like the Antalya Museum, the historic Yivli Minare Mosque, and Hadrian's Gate - built by the Romans in 130AD.
A short drive from Antalya will take you to the streets of Belek, a town blessed with renowned golf courses, thermal spas and one of the best beaches on the Turkish Coast. At Belek Beach, you'll enjoy powdery white sands against a backdrop of colourful pines, and waters that do justice to the Turquoise Coast title. A longer drive northwest, and you'll arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hierapolis, an ancient city near the surreal limestone hot springs of Pamukkale - both of which are must-see attractions.
The Antalya area enjoys sunny weather most of the year. The hottest months are from June to September with temperatures above 30 degrees celsius, with the most popular months being July and August.
If you prefer a cooler climate, try April-May and October-November. With temperatures around 20 degrees celsius, these months are great for exploring the region, as well as for sunbathing. The winter period is also fantastic for long hikes and walks thanks to the comfortable daily averages.
In the Antalya region, you'll find international dishes and Turkish specialities. For global fare, there are classic French offerings, Italian pastas, teppanyaki grills and Mediterranean a la carte menus. However, you must check out the local cuisine, which includes favourites like dolmas, hummus and kebabs.
Enjoy an incredible range of teas, from apple to vanilla, and sample Raki, the national drink made from distilled grape pomace and aniseed. Try traditional meze platters too, and don't forget to indulge in the best Turkish Delight in the world.
