Overview

There’s a reason that locals describe Dominica as Nature Island. Its mountainous landscape is covered with thick tropical rainforest and endlessly intriguing hiking trails. Experience a true sense of exploration as you trek across this vast yet largely undeveloped island. From narrow gorges and hidden waterfalls to black sand beaches and hot spring geysers, this Pandora-like world is one of the last hidden gems of the Caribbean.

Morne Trois Pitons National Park was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 in recognition of not only the fascinating geography but also the unique flora and fauna on the island. It’s been regarded as a birdwatcher’s paradise with species such as the Imperial Parrot being endemic to the island. The crapaud is an endangered frog also native to Dominica, while nesting sea turtles often use the shores of Dominica to lay their eggs.

The fascination doesn’t end when you reach the shores. With around 40 dive sites dotted around the coast, you’ll find some of the best diving in the Caribbean here. Champagne Reef, for example, us incredible for both scuba divers and snorkellers alike as one of the island’s few shore dives. The reefs are colourful and teeming with some of the 320 different species of fish that call the reef home.

It’s already evident that Dominica makes the ideal Caribbean island for those with a passion for adventure. However, even if you just love to unwind in beautiful settings, there’s a Dominica for you. From clifftop balconies and deserted beaches to fine dining and rejuvenating spa treatments, Dominica has no end to the surprises in store. Also, exclusivity is one of the standout features, with just 200,000 annual visitors, and most of these arrive on cruise ships for stopovers. This means that you’ll be walking through untouched trails, relaxing on rarely-tread beaches, and discovering a new world for yourself.
